The Academy is an entity incorporated in India. The daily operation of the Academy is carried out by a small, but experienced and dedicated team from the electronic Industry. The business of the Academy is to provide a vital service to innovators, investors and stakeholders in the microelectronic industry, in order to produce a new breed of microelectronics businesses in India. This service comprises of invaluable assistance to businesses which includes formulating and validating the business model, rapid placement of a value-chain through risk sharing business models, securing third party seed funding and co-investing as necessary. In addition, the Academy will help with building the management team, and nurturing the business throughout the seed phase until it is ready for the first round of Venture Capital funding.

This challenging task is made possible through an ecosystem of world-class partners from the microelectronic industry in the value chain of which some have already pledged support in writing to the Academy. The Academy intends to build a small fund to support some of the innovators through co-investment at seed stage. However the primary function of the Academy is a business accelerator.
The value proposition of the Academy to innovators is the validation of their concept and the acceleration of their business growth from concept to revenue. Academy portfolio companies will be able to procure their tools, IP, manufacturing Legal services and tenure through business models that share risk from Academy stakeholders. Access to competitively priced silicon often debilitates smaller fabless semiconductor companies from playing in mass markets and restricts them to niche market sectors. The Academy intends to change this unwritten rule by bringing visionary key players in the microelectronics value chain into the Academy. These large companies aspire to build more equitable, long-term partnerships with future rising stars that can become future top tier customers. |
We envisage that the most beneficial aspects of the membership of the Academy for an innovator will be a ‘stamp of validation’ for their business model to enhance their prospect of securing VC funding at ‘series A’ stage. The Academy has already attracted an advisory board made up of high profile Industry veterans from various sectors of the microelectronic marketplace to validate business plans and advise on the technical merits of proposals. It is our intention to build THE brand of ‘Academy Approved’ in order to enable the Academy to expand its operation and secure its own Seed fund to invest in further novel businesses.
Platinum members of the Academy are multi-nationals with products critical to the balance sheet of microelectronics companies, for example, Silicon foundries, Design Automation Vendors, IP suppliers, etc. These vendors invest billions of dollars annually in building fabrication facilities and creating tools. It is our belief that they will greatly benefit from the services of the Academy which will enable them to engage future world class microelectronic companies at an early stage. |
